Gatlinburg packs a lot into a few walkable blocks. Downtown along the Parkway you’ll find the Space Needle, the SkyLift and its SkyBridge, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and Anakeesta, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park starts at the south edge of town.
Park once and walk if you can. Downtown traffic is slow on weekends and all through October, and the trolley covers most of town. Up the hill, Ober Gatlinburg has its aerial tramway from downtown and ski slopes in winter, and the Arts & Crafts Community on Glades Road is worth a slow afternoon.
If it rains, our rainy day guide has indoor ideas from Ripley’s Aquarium to Ober’s ice rink. For a cheaper day, see our guide to free things to do in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
