About Moonshine Mountain Coaster

Moonshine Mountain Coaster is a year-round mountain coaster on the Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. Riders board single or double coaster cars, ride an uphill lift to the top of the mountain, and then coast back down on a track designed to run quietly. Each car has its own brake handles, so riders set their own pace, from a gentle glide that takes in the scenery to a faster run through the curves. No special skills are required, though some age and height restrictions apply. The coaster runs both day and night, and after dark a light show adds a different feel to the ride, which is why the attraction suggests saving one ride for the evening. Single rides, re-rides and a multi-ride package are sold, and the third ride in the package can be used on a different day. The coaster has been recognized locally, including as a Gatlinburg Winterfest decorating winner. It is an easy stop to combine with a stroll along the Parkway, and it gives families a new way to enjoy the slopes of the Great Smoky Mountains without leaving town.
