About Tennessee Museum of Aviation
The Tennessee Museum of Aviation sits right on the Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Airport in Sevierville, so the runway is just outside the hangar door and visitors sometimes get to watch vintage aircraft start up and take off. Airworthy warbirds are the heart of the collection. The 35,000-square-foot hangar displays restored aircraft, engines, cockpits and military vehicles, including two airworthy Republic P-47D Thunderbolts, a World War II fighter of which fewer than a dozen remain, and a Douglas A-1H Skyraider that still carries battle scars from Vietnam. You will also find trainers, jets, helicopters and amphibious aircraft such as a T-28B Trojan, an OV-10 Bronco, an HU-16E Albatross and MiG fighters. The Exhibit Gallery traces aviation and military history with uniforms, models and memorabilia, and the Faith and Courage exhibit honors U.S. military chaplains. The museum also serves as Tennessee’s official repository and archive of aviation history. It makes a good rainy-day stop for history buffs and for anyone who loves airplanes.
